The Early Childhood Teacher Mentor Program offers experienced early childhood teachers the opportunity to become trained mentors and pass on their expertise and guidance to beginning teachers. At the same time, it offers beginning teachers access to a skilled role model and colleague who will help them to learn more about working effectively with children, staff, and families. Bank Street College's Center for ECP is working in collaboration with Child Care, Inc. and Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies to offer an NAEYC accreditation facilitation project called Quality New York. The program is currently providing support to over 150 early childhood programs throughout New York City who are seeking accreditation and who have received accreditation through NAEYC. As of May 2007, 83 programs have received NAEYC accreditation with QNY's assistance. Quality Advisors have been trained to offer on-site consultations to these programs. Additionally, Program Directors and their teaching staff are engaged in professional development workshops specifically designed for this project and facilitated by Bank Street, to address the needs of programs working towards accreditation. If you would like more information about the Quality New York accreditation facilitation project or about the process itself, please contact Meredith Lewis, Interim Co-Director, at 212.961.3414 / mlewis@bankstreet.edu.
The Teacher-Leader Institute focuses on creating program-wide change by involving teams of teachers and Directors in a series of participatory seminars that center on developing effective early childhood program environments and strategies that promote teamwork and cooperation.
