Investing in Education | Ways of Giving

What's unique about Bank Street

Bank Street School for Children develops children as successful learners and engaged members of their communities by empowering them to make connections to their world, to the people around them, and to their developing knowledge and ideas. Bank Street School supports teachers and mentors teachers-in-training to create an educational community that nurtures lifelong learners and encourages students to be citizens of the world. By partnering with Bank Street School for Children through your charitable support, all members of the community, past and present, can help the School to realize its mission of demonstrating and improving educational excellence and helping teachers and children to connect learning meaningfully to the world.

The Development Program for the School for Children

The Development Office for the School, located in the division of Institutional Advancement of Bank Street College of Education, serves the School by identifying and securing resources that enhance the School's work with children, teachers and families. Another part of the mission of the SFC Development Office is to strengthen links to the School's alumni through outreach and programming. The SFC Development Office publishes the biannual SFC newsletter for parents, alumni, staff and friends of the School, SFC Network.

Ways of giving

Annual Giving

Think Kids. Think Learning. Think Bank Street! SFC Annual Fund 2007-08
Annual Giving, through the SFC Annual Fund, provides critical unrestricted dollars to the yearly operating budget that ensure that Bank Street will:

  • Attract, retain and develop the very best teachers and staff
  • Support a socio-economically diverse group of students through financial aid
  • Help children become lifelong learners and citizens of the world
Annual Giving to the School, which provided $611,610 in 2006-2007, allows you to make a tax-deductible contribution, while giving Bank Street School the ability to allocate resources where they are most needed. In 2007-2008, our goal is to raise $650,000 by June 30, 2008.

Capital Giving

Periodically, the School raises funds for major improvements to the physical plant or projects that require large sums of money. Major gifts are pledged over a period of three to five years.

In-Kind

Planned Giving

Gifts of all kinds help fulfill Bank Street School's potential and secure its future. But that's just the beginning when you give a planned gift of cash or non-cash assets.

Planned Gifts to Bank Street

Donors who make a Planned Gift become members of the Lucy Sprague Mitchell Society, named after Bank Street's founder who also left a bequest in her will. Our philosophy is that first and foremost, estate planning means ensuring that one's loved ones will be safe and secure. And secondly, estate planning means taking care of any personal obligations.  When one has taken care of these important things, we hope that one will think of Bank Street.

Ways to Make a Planned Gift:

The most popular way of becoming a Lucy Sprague Mitchell Society member is by mentioning Bank Street in one's will:

  • for a specific amount
  • for a percentage of one's holdings
  • for the residual of what remains after all obligations have been met
  • with a contingency bequest that names Bank Street if others mentioned in the will have previously passed on
  • The following information should be given to one's lawyer:
    • The full name of the College: Bank Street College of Education
    • The College is located in: New York, New York
    • The tax identification number is: 13-5562167

By naming Bank Street as the recipient of a retirement account
One must designate Bank Street as the recipient on the proper form used by the company holding the retirement account

By naming Bank Street as the recipient of a life insurance policy.
By signing one's insurance company's form designating Bank Street as the recipient

By taking out a Charitable Gift Annuity. The Donor makes a gift of at least $10,000 to Bank Street. Bank Street sends the gift to TIAA-Cref, which invests it. Donor receives guaranteed income for life, along with a large tax deduction. At the end of the Donor's life the remainder passes to Bank Street.
