Admissions: Getting Started

printthis.gif: Print-Friendly version of this page

Applications for the 2009-2010 school year as well as the Open House dates will be available on our website as of Tuesday, September 2, 2008.

If you wish to inquire about admissions in Grades 2nd through 7th, please contact the Admissions Office at 212.875.4433 or by email at schoolforchildrenadmissions@bankstreet.edu. We are no longer accepting applications for our Nursery program through 1st Grade.

FAQs >>

We accept and welcome applications at all grade levels. Our Nursery class (3s) is one class of 16 children. The Pre-kindergarten (4/5s) class is the main entry point since we expand the grade to two classes of 20. At Kindergarten (the 5/6s), we increase the grade size somewhat and offer a small number of places depending on the year. Applications at other grade levels are processed if places are available.
Please note that the process varies depending upon the grade to which you are applying.

Step 2

Open House

RSVP for one of the 3 Open Houses scheduled in the fall. Reservations are strongly recommended since we are obligated to meet the maximum capacity space requirements.

Step 3

Submit Application Form by November 15, 2007

The Admissions Office will schedule a child visit after the Application Form is submitted.
(Additional materials can be sent at a later date but before the Application Deadline).
Important: Although we try to see many families who apply, it is not possible for us to interview all of them. If we do process your application, we will call you soon to schedule a tour and interview. Some families whom we do not invite for an interview will be placed on a Wait List in case an interview slot becomes available. If your application is not processed by mid-February, we will return your application fee.

The following steps apply only
to applications that will be processed.

Step 4

Child Visit and Classroom Observation for Parents

  • Children meet in small groups while parents have an opportunity to sit in and observe several classes.

Step 5

Parent Interview

  • The parent interview is scheduled separately from the child's visit. These interviews are arranged at the time of the child's visit.

Step 6

Report and School Record from Current School

  • Transcript Release Form
Complete and sign the Transcript Release Form and give it to your current school.
  • Step 6a. Applicants for the 3rd Grade (8/9s) through 8th Grade (13/14s) must also send last year's school report as well as a corrected written school assignment from a current class.
